With Monarda bradburiana as a parent, Monarda x ‘Bumble Bee King’ PPAF was originally selected for its clumping habit, but the rich deep purple spring emergence has quickly become a signature trait. Hybrid vigor gives the plant a more upright size, about 24 inches in height, and lavendar-pink flowers begin in June around the time bumble bees are looking for food. As the petals fade, purpled seed heads add to the show, holding on throughout the fall into winter. Mildew and disease resistant plants persist, extending the season of interest.
